During the week of 12/15, Jack became certified as a Staff Instructor in the newest PPCT Course, School Safety & Healthy Children.

New Instructor Certification

During the week of 12/15, Jack became certified as a Staff Instructor in the newest PPCT Course, School Safety & Healthy Children. The class was conducted by recognized school safety experts Michael and Chris Dorn and the pioneer and leader in the field of survival learning, Bruce K. Siddle.

By providing recognition skills for all levels of school employees, this course encourages all school personnel to become involved with safety and security issues. With an emphasis upon prevention, the class covers areas ranging from Common Classroom and School Hazards to Warning Signs of Destructive Youth Behaviors and Positive Intervention Action Steps. The course also includes such core areas as Reducing the Risk of Physical Assault and Weapons Assault Prevention.

This class provides the perfect compliment to PPCT’s other school safety program, Disruptive Student Management. While that course provides instruction on how to deal with disruptive students, the new course emphasizes preventive measures that can remove difficulties before they have a chance to cause negative effects. It also provides specific instructions for school personnel with regard to actions to be taken in the event of various school emergencies. Such instruction is not limited to actions within the school; it also covers such areas as communication with parents and plans for appropriate parental responses to school emergencies.

School Safety & Healthy Children Certified Instructors will also be able to conduct smaller seminars that target students and parents. By covering these two target groups, the overall program provides involvement on all levels of the education process.

Instructor Certification in the School Safety & Healthy Children program requires successful completion of a two-day seminar (16 hours). Participants for the seminar include Teachers, School Administrators, School Counselors, School Resource Officers, and representatives from companies that insure schools.
